This year we decided to pay respect to the bodhivriksham because this symbol of Buddha has life and it shows karuna to us by giving oxygen and shade. The bodhi in Kozhikode city is the grand-daughter of the original bodhi tree at Budhh Gaya. Sanghamithra, daughter of Emperor Ashoka planted a branch of the original bodhi tree in Anuradhapura,Sreelanka in BCE 247. Bhikshu Dharmaskandha brought to Kozhikode a sapling from Anuradhapura in 1935. Mithavaadi C Krishnan planted it in the Buddhavihar in Customs Road, Kozhikode City. It is a very tall tree,now.
